  4. What it does
  5. -----------
  6. In ccMail if you are in a bulletin board or your inbox you will see all unread messages in bold.  If you have judged by the title that you don't want to read them then using this "custom key" utility will mark them as read without your opening them.

  8. This program runs with the Mac versions ccMail 2 and ccMail 3.

  10. How to install
  11. -------------
  12. System 7.1 or greater - look in the folder "FKEYs for System 7.1 +" - pick the number the key that you wish to use (command shift number) - and drop this file into the system folder (or the font's folder).  The system thinks of the FKEY as a font so say "yes" for installation.

  14. System 7. (or before but I have been unable to test it) - Run the progam "System 7 FKEY Installer" and find ccMail (if you are sufficiently paranoid about my code you could make a copy of ccMail first).

  16. If you or anyone else has already installed any custom keys it will give you the option of deleting them.

  18. It will the ask you which key you wish to install the custom key.  The custom key combination is command shift number (number from 0 to 9).  Some numbers will be unavailble as they are used by the system.  Slect a number you think appropriate and click OK.

  20. How to use

  22. Now when you run your copy of ccMail if you are in a bulletin board or inbox pressing "command shift number" it will mark the currently selected message as unread without opening it and select the next unread message in that board.

  24. To remove
  25. ---------
  26. System 7.1 and above - open the font's folder and remove the FKEY file.
  27.  
  28. System 7 - Run FKEY Installer again and select the keys you wish to remove - ignore any latter attempts to re-install.

  30. Known problems
  31. --------------
  32. In a bulletin board it does not always dim messages which have been read - but if you look at the total number of unread messages it has gone down.

  36. This is a simple utility - it took me longer to write the installer than the actual FKEY so I'm going to let you have it for free and you may distribute it as you see fit.  The only conditions I impose are :-

  38. 1)   Keep all the included files, especially this readme together.
